A Decade in Review

I am ready to make 2020 great. It is the first year in a few where we are not anticipating any major changes. I want to grow my yoga business and take time to make consistent routines in our house, my work and my self-care. I am already organizing and planning daily to make this happen. However, we didn’t get where we are today overnight. We have been growing and changing together as individuals, as a couple and as a family. So I wanted to take some time and reflect on the last decade.

For us, 2010 started with being a part of the Olympics in Whistler. This was an opportunity of a lifetime and we have so many amazing memories of that time. We saw may amazing athletes compete at the highest level and got to cheer on many local Whisterites. It will forever be a time we look back on fondly and reminisce about. Next up in 2010 was our wedding. It is mind-boggling to think that we have been married for 10 years this year! It was a magical day that was perfect in every way for us! In the fall of 2010, we also bought our first house. It was a big year for us!

As the years moved forward we continued to build a life and home in Whistler. We took a month-long trip to Europe in 2012, where I got to show Tim the amazing places I had visited while living there in 2006. It was a trip of a lifetime and we often talk about when we will return with our kids! In late 2012 we found out the most amazing news….I was pregnant with our first child! We spend most of the first part of 2013 preparing for this huge life event. On June 1st, 2013 Benjamin David finally made his appearance and we were filled with more love and joy than we knew was possible.

2014 came and went with many trips to visit family and throughout our home province of British Columbia. Life was good. We both had steady and fulfilling jobs and were enjoying life in Whistler. As 2015 approached we both were feeling a bit cramped in our 2 bedroom condo, we wanted to find more space both indoors and outdoors. In fall 2015 we decided to make the move to Squamish and bought our duplex. We moved in at the end of January 2016 on the same day we found out I was pregnant with our second baby!

We renovated that house for the first half of 2016 and then Olivia Elizabeth arrived on September 29, 2016. Our little family was complete. Over the next year, we enjoyed exploring and discovering all Squamish had to offer. During the summer of 2017 Tim was given an amazing job promotion that would move us to Colorado. We spent a lot of time discussing this and decided that we would regret taking the opportunity even though it was going to be a big move and a big adjustment for all of us. I took a leave from teaching to become a stay-at-home mom and we headed south!

When we arrived in Colorado in October 2017 I wasn’t sure what to expect. I had never been there before and we had just left the area we had been a part of for over 10 years. I was blown away by the amazing community of Eagle, Colorado and by the people there. It very quickly felt like home. We then spent the rest of 2017 and 2018 exploring and discovering Colorado. I also rediscovered my love for yoga and became a yoga instructor. I became an entrepreneur and am growing my business every day.

In the fall of 2018 my amazing husband got another promotion, this time it would take us out of the mountains and into the city. We were both a bit concerned about moving back to the city but we knew that we had the skills to take on this challenge. Winter and Spring of 2019 were the hardest yet. However, it did start with an amazing beach vacation to Barbados to celebrate Gramma's birthday. As soon as we returned Tim started traveling for work. He was gone every week for 3-4 days from January to May. It was hard on all of us. I know that the strength and love we have for each other is what got us through. In June 2019 we moved to Westminster, Colorado and are now settling in. We had a busy fall traveling to two very important weddings (one where we had our first couples trip away from the kids!) and now we are starting to feel like this is home.

We know that we won’t be here forever but we do know that we are learning and growing together as a family, as a couple and as individuals. Our kids are now 3 and 6 and they amaze us every day. We can’t wait to see what the next decade holds for them too…OMG we will have a 13-year-old and 16-year-old by then!

The biggest lesson I have learned over the last 10 years is to take chances. If we had not taken the chances we did we would not have had the amazing life experiences we have had; we would not have met the amazing people we have and we would not be living our best life!
